EatWild is excited to offer a new workshop on hide tanning, an essential complement to the hunting skillset.
Join us for three days of guided facilitation on the classical method of smoke-tanning (brain-tanning), the world’s oldest and most prolific hide tanning technique. Every participant works with their own deer skin provided by the course, and takes home a self-made smoked buckskin at the end.
Each day consists of one stage of the tanning process. It is tough work and takes endurance, but is easily within reach of any motivated beginner. Participants will also learn proper skinning techniques, storage and maintenance of hides, and variable tanning methods.
The hides provided are wild deer skins salvaged during hunting season. Each hide was skinned with tanner’s pull methods to ensure the highest quality finished textile.
