The most effective way to hunt moose is to call them to you. For years we would drift rivers and drive roads in hopes of blundering into a moose who’s down on his luck. We had a medium amount of success with this technique. Eventually I was mentored by the French Canadian family on how to use moose calls to draw a moose to your location. Our hunter success rate increased tenfold. Using both bull calls and cow calls you can coerce the bull moose to come out of their deep covered location in the woods to where you can get an ethical shot at the animal. Moose are very big animals and difficult to pack on your back, so it’s important that you call them to the lake shore, river edge, or near road access so that you can transport the animal with with a boat or vehicle.
In this clinic we will cover:
- Identifying moose calling habitat
- Where and how to set up
- Cow calling techniques
- Bull calling techniques
- Using antlers as props
- Using decoys and blinds
- Locating and stalking moose
- Drawing moose close enough for the shot
I will teach you to call moose without any store-bought calls. If you have something that you’ve purchased you can bring it and we can play with it but we will teach you to call most just using your hands.
