Proper meat care is without doubt the most important part of being an ethical and successful hunter. You must know how to get the meat out of the field, on to the meat meat pole, and eventually back home to get butchered, all while keeping the meat clean and cold. We have just returned from a successful elk hunt where we needed to field butcher and pack several elk back to camp. This video shows how we get the meat back to camp in great condition, how we hang the meat so it cools down and stays bug free and dry, and finally how we transport the elk back to the butcher keeping it clean and cold.
I apologize for the quality of the filming. I had to used my iphone since my camera died on this trip. But the content is pretty good. We had several elk to use for the content at different stages of the process, including a new hunter’s elk that needed to be cleaned up and hung properly . So enjoy.
