This introductory course for women will give you the tools you need to hit the lake this summer. Led by Kitty Kanhoffen from the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, you’ll learn where, when and how to catch fish. After some brief instruction, you’ll have a chance to try out your new skills and catch some fish!
What you can expect to learn:
- Fish identification and biology
- Rods, reels, lines and tackle
- Knot tying
- Proper fish handling and ethics
- Safety and fishing regulations
- Casting and retrieving
- Where, when and how to catch fish
- Hands on fishing (all tackle and equipment provided)
Participants will leave with an understanding of the basic gear needed to fish, and how to bait and cast, and how to set the hook and bring your fish in. You will also learn how to ethically and safely release fish and where to find key regulatory info. We’ll send you home with your own Learn to Fish manual, and a guide to fishing lakes in the Lower Mainland.
The course is held at Rice Lake in North Vancouver.

Registration and Costs

Cost is $60 and the workshop will cover basic fish ID, rods, reels, lines and tackle, proper fish handling, and key regulatory info. Then you’ll try out your new skills with the supervision of our instructors. Held at Rice Lake in North Vancouver.
