Learn how to butcher with EatWild! We offer a comprehensive butchering workshop so you can build the confidence and skills needed to properly butcher an animal.
Knifewear Vancouver will host this workshop at 4215 Main Street, Vancouver. Using hog carcasses we will demonstrate two separate techniques for breaking down an animal:
- An experienced hunter from EatWild will demonstrate a traditional hunters approach to butchering a hog (or other animal) in the field. Dylan will show you how to bone out (break down) an animal and prepare the meat to be backpacked to the truck or camp. This is also the first step to prep an animal so you can butcher it in your own kitchen. This will give students a practical approach to butchering with limited tools and supplies.
- A professional butcher will lead our group through a traditional butchers approach to the butchering of a hog using a butchers tools and techniques. You’ll learn how to butcher an animal into classic cuts, such as pork chops and roasts!
Participants will learn how to break an animal down initially into large portions, and then into the choice cuts you’ll want for the freezer. We will show you how to wrap the meat for storage in the freezer. This is a hands on workshop, so workshop participants will be doing the butchering with support from the instructors.
We are offering our Butchering Skills Workshop for an introductory rate of $130 / person. This includes instruction from a professional butcher and a master hunter. You will also leave with a share of pork for your freezer.
